United States—Israel Science and Technology Foundation

Mission
The U.S.-Israel Science and Technology Foundation "USISTF" seeks to foster the broadest possible range of collaborative opportunities in high technology for American and Israeli entities for the mutual benefit of the people and economies of both nations.

Objectives and Priority Areas
The USISTF mandate is to support programs that:

  • Promote the advancement of science and technology for the benefit of both countries.
  • Reduce barriers to bi-national cooperation in high technology.
  • Foster growth of high technology industries in both countries.
  • Build the infrastructure for long-term strategic collaboration.
  • Serve as a catalyst for mutually beneficial strategic industrial alliances.

In accordance with the directives of the US-Israel Science and Technology Commission, the Foundation currently has several strategic areas of focus including: Information Technology, Biotechnology, Security Technology, Nanotechnology and Harmonization of standards/regulations.

History
USISTF was established in 1995 by the U.S.-Israel Science and Technology Commission, a bi-lateral government initiative created by the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Israel. The Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that implements and administers programs mandated by the Commission.

The USISTF has sponsored Commission projects covering a broad range of technology issues in a number of key priority fields. These include:

  • information technology
  • biotechnology;
  • harmonization of regulations and standards;
  • defense commercialization;
  • environmental technology; and,
  • telemedicine and medical devices
