About ILSI

On January 2005, USISTF formally launched the Israel Life Sciences Industry Association (ILSI), the industry association of Israel’s Life Sciences Sector.  ILSI is the product of a bi-national working group created to survey the specific needs and agendas of Israel’s fragmented life sciences network. The working group, seeded and funded by USISTF, identified an increasingly perceptible lack of cohesion driving life science research as well as limited policy endorsement within the Israeli the life science community.

ILSI’s core mission is to research, develop, and advocate policies and initiatives that promote the medical device, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and agro-biotech sectors in the State of Israel and increase awareness of Israel’s strengths and innovation worldwide. A primary function of the organization is to serve as the platform for exhibiting innovation within the life sciences community, to the general public, and to potential investors.

As an organization representing a collection of more than 1,000 biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device companies, and esteemed academic institutions, ILSI serves as a compass for public officials and policymakers on issues affecting Israel’s biomedical and health care technology interests.

In practice, ILSI actively showcases Israel’s dynamic life sciences sector through organized partnering and investment events.  Most recently, ILSI successfully hosted the BioMed Israel 2007 Conference which drew over 5,000 participants from thirty five countries and eight U.S. States.  ILSI also exhibited at the Israeli National Pavilion of the BIO 2007 Conference in Boston, encouraging bi-national entrepreneurship by concretely demonstrating the preeminent scientific capability that exists in Israel.  Both events have contributed to increased industrial and commercial activity between the U.S. and Israeli life sciences industries.

The success of ILSI has been a key step in advancing USISTF’s imperative to build infrastructure and generate effective industrial collaboration with the U.S. market.  The USISTF will continue to endorse ILSI’s efforts to cultivate opportunities for increased economic cooperation between the Life Sciences Industries of the U.S. and of Israel.
